About Circinn

Circinn was launched in January of 2017. The owners, Becky and Charlie, brought over 20 years experience in Art, Design and Manufacturing into the business. That, and a vision to bring to life their designs of small, discrete, precious items.

Since then, Circinn Jewellery has been sold by Historic Scotland (the team that manage the castles and historic buildings of Scotland), has featured in Trade Journals, and has been bought, worn, and loved by people in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, and Australia.

The name ‘Circinn’ is actually the old Pictish name for the area of Scotland where we work and live. It’s a beautiful place, surrounded by the castles, lochs, myths and monsters that inspire our work.

Our distinctive style focuses on precision to elevate the beauty in every design. What you won’t find here is mass-produced items made without care and attention. What you will find is a sustainable approach to design, using recycled precious metals and ethically sourced gems. You’ll find beautiful items made in small batches by master craftsmen and craftswomen.

We have a range of beautiful items for you to view here on our website. Even the smallest and least expensive of them are crafted by hand, and with care and devotion. We want you to look lovingly at your piece of Circinn Jewellery – to play with the way it catches the light while you enjoy your morning coffee. We want you to love it so much you plan your outfit and accessories around it, rather than the other way around. So, please, have a look around. See if you can’t find your forever piece of jewellery.

How it’s made

We do a lot of work on the bench, some on the computer, some casting, and some crafting entirely by hand. The tools used depend on the job, and we love to learn and use new skills wherever we can. Here’s a little sample of a design from start to finish. We hope you enjoy it.

A little note about hallmarking…

When it comes to manufacturing jewellery and silverware, precious metals (silver, palladium, gold and platinum) are rarely used in their purest form. Instead, they are usually alloyed with lesser metals in order to achieve a desired strength, durability, and colour.

It is not possible to detect the precious metal content of an item by sight or by touch. It is, therefore, a legal requirement to hallmark all items consisting of silver, palladium, gold or platinum (subject to certain exemptions) if they are to be described as such.

All of our items are assayed (tested) and hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office and we are an Assay Assured Jewellery Retailer. Assay Assured status is only given to retailers who have been independently audited and verified by the Edinburgh Assay Office and ensures that all precious metal jewellery (including items exempt by weight) is of the claimed standard – a protection over and above legal requirements. More information about hallmarking can be found here.
